Why You Should Start Thrift Shopping Today!

Thrift shopping or thrifting is one of my favorite things to do. It’s so fun, exciting, and helping the environment! You will want to go thrifting ASAP!

  1. Saving Money – When I thrift I’m always finding name brand clothes for prices anywhere from .50 to $20. The prices depend on where you go. At Goodwill most of the items are around $4.00 or under, but you look through a ton of stuff to find those good things. At a store like Plato’s Closet you’re guaranteed to find good stuff because they filter the clothes that are out of style or damaged. At Plato’s Closet American Eagle jeans, in like new condition, for $18.00 and shirts are anywhere from $1.00 to $8.00. They have an amazing selection of clothes and are constantly hosting sales. Every time I am in Columbia I don’t even waste my time at the mall. I go straight to Plato’s Closet. I’ve left thrift stores with $300 worth of clothes for about $50. Not to mention all the books and home decor I buy too. (Hardback books are usually $1.00 to $2.00 at Goodwill and Salvation Army)
  2. Thrifting is so fun! – If you’re like me and could shop until you drop, thrifting is perfect for you. I can spend hours looking at everything under the sun and leave spending a quarter of the cost of other stores. There is so much to look at. The good, the bad, and the ugly. (Plus funny) Thrift stores have fashion for everyone! Including men, kids, plus and petite, and even nurses. I swear every time Tim pays full price for a new pair of work jeans, that he will ruin, my stomach turns over. Men — try thrift shopping! You cannot beat the price and I bet you’ll have at least a little fun giggling at some of the clothes you find.
  3. Environmentally friendly – Reduce, reuse, and recycle! Right? Thrifting helps reduce waste. For every thrifted item you purchase one less of that item is produced and then thrown away. By purchasing second hand you’re keeping that item from a landfill, at least for a while. Landfill aside – making clothing is tough on energy and oil levels as well as pollutes the environment.

Overall, thrifting saves you money, helps the environment and is FUN!

Why wouldn’t you start today?
